SESSION 2 WITH LEADING ARCHITECTURAL STUDIO

Consumer demands are changing at a rapid pace, yet the places where we shop no longer cater to this deep-seated desire for holistic experiences. What does the future retail space need to look and perform like to be relevant to future customers, brands and property owners? This will be explored, workshopped, explained and discussed through a series of questions by leading international architectural studios, thought leaders and game-changing developer Beulah, in a webinar hosted by international design authority FRAME Magazine.

LEADING ARCHITECTURAL STUDIOS

March Studios

MARCH STUDIO (AUS)

March Studio ground the creative process in practical solutions that are informed by a hands-on engagement with materials and experimentation with innovative building systems and multi-disciplinary thinking.

For us, each project is the product of its own particular set of circumstances and offers an opportunity to create singular responses to those prompts. The pinnacle of achievement for us is the project that drives us further and teaches us the most; those moments where our ambition is provoked by a challenge that calls for fit-for-purpose outcomes that we meet by redefining and rethinking what we know.

SYBARITE (UK)

Sybarite is a devotee of luxury and pleasure with an appreciation for the finer things in life. For architects Torquil McIntosh and Simon Mitchell, the founders of Sybarite, the name perfectly described the company culture they wanted to create back in 2002. Now, nearly twenty years later, this London-based architectural and design studio continues to innovate and inspire in the global world of luxury fashion, retail and hospitality, bringing a creative vision to projects that makes them outstanding. The studio’s projects can be seen in cities all over the world, with international fashion brands among their client base.

Brinkworth Update

BRINKWORTH (UK)

Brinkworth is a global design company creating spaces that build strong connections between people and brands. We’re a team of multi-talented specialists including designers, architects and other creatives, and when we want to bring other disciplines to the table, we call on a network of collaborators representing the best in their field. Our projects span retail, brand experience, workplace, hospitality, residential as well as culture and education.

We’re based at our East London design studio, the same building that was home to the original Brinkworth workshop in 1990. Today we spend the majority of our time here, but also run nearby Brinkworks, our dedicated prototyping space.

CIGUË (FRA)

Standing at the crossroads between architecture, design and installation, ciguë reactivates archetypes to produce contemporary environments. Our projects are characterized by experimentation, stripped-bare aesthetics and radical collage.

Home to a team of twenty in Montreuil, our workshop is an arena where new spaces and materials are developed. By removing the hierarchy between different scales and dissolving the boundaries between various areas of expertise, ciguë reconciles the way we live in the world with the way we build it.

Schemata

SCHEMATA ARCHITECTS (JPN)

Jo Nagasaka has established Schemata Architects right after graduating from the Tokyo University of the Arts in 1998. His design office is now based in Kitasando, Tokyo. The scale of the studio’s work ranges widely from furniture and architecture to urban landscape. The type of his work is also extensive; it includes café, shop, hotel and public bath.

In any size of his architecture, he is always conscious about 1:1 scale, exploring materials and design, expanding his works both domestically and globally. He’s been discovering new perspectives and values from everyday things and existing environments, while presenting unique ideas such as ‘subtraction’, ‘misuse’, ‘update of knowledge’, ’invisible development’, and ‘semiarchitecture’, and established an original architect image.
