BETA By STH BNK explores the future of sustainable fashion

With iconic Australian designers

Designed to offer a taste of what is to come from our upcoming project STH BNK By Beulah, BETA By STH BNK is an experimental event series housed in Hanover House, serving as a platform for brands and aligned industry partners exploring the future of retail across fashion, wellness, dining, homewares and learning. The latest line-up is the Future From Waste LAB, a collaboration with top Australian designers which explores the future of fashion.

The five-level concept building was designed by architecture firm Sibling, who used materials from the previous fit out, such as repurposed office cubicles, to reduce waste and create a multisensory experience for consumers. Situated on the ground floor, Future From Waste LAB, an experimental retail and design space in which waste fabrics are sorted, washed, unpicked, cut and finally redesigned by cult Australian designers into new garments. All pieces will be photographed on-site and sold on each designer’s website for consumers to purchase.

The project’s Creative Director is leading Australian designer Kit Willow, a pioneer in sustainable fashion with her namesake brand KITX. She curated a collection of iconic Australian brands, and has confirmed contemporary brand Romance Was Born and ARTCLUB by Heidi Middleton (previously at the helm of iconic brand Sass & Bide ) to be included in the Future From Waste LAB so far. The designers will conceptualise, design and construct innovative designs in the space before they are then made available to purchase.

All clothing to be used in the project has been sourced from Upparel, a Melbourne-based recycling centre that repurposes unwanted garments to be used as off-cuts for clothing brands, creating a cyclical fashion model. Sustainability is at the forefront of the conceptual space, with eco-friendly white goods donated by E&S and laundry liquid supplied by eco-friendly, natural and plant-based cleaning brand Koala Eco.

Future From Waste LAB will open its doors to the public in early 2022. Until then the Future From Waste LAB will continue to turn waste into want with the first creations, designed by Kit Willow, available to purchase on kitx.com.au
