Future From Waste Lab Residency
21 Sep 2022 to mid Nov 2022

HoMie is the Melbourne streetwear brand putting 100% of its profits into supporting young people affected by homelessness or hardship. The REBORN range upcycles garments into brand ‘new’ pieces, reflecting BETA and STH BNK’s vision of a circular fashion future that’s better for people and planet.

SECOND LIFE CLOTHING

REBORN by HoMie recognises the untapped potential of waste. Excess stock, faulty garments and returns are sorted, cut, sewn and imaginatively repurposed into unique and one-off pieces all from the brand’s Collingwood studio. As well as providing a way for the brand to lighten their environmental load, the REBORN initiative gives back to the community with funds funnelled straight back into social impact programs that provide education and employment opportunities for marginalised youth.

“OUR AIM IS TO CONTINUOUSLY ENCOURAGE OUR COMMUNITY TO BUY CONSCIOUSLY AND TAKE APPROPRIATE CARE OF THEIR CLOTHES.”

SUSTAINABLE STREET STYLE

HoMie will bring the REBORN experience to BETA in real-time. During their Future From Waste Lab residency, the label’s designers will create an extremely limited edition collection made up entirely of surplus stock and pre-loved materials. Utilising deadstock, returns and faulty merch from both HoMie and iconic streetwear brand Champion, the capsule collection will push the limits of what we know as waste. Existing tees, hoodies and shorts will be transformed into on-trend garments, featuring heavy panelling and repeat logos that pay homage to the former lives of the original garments used throughout the process.

“OUR HOMIE AND REBORN CREATIVE TEAM HAVE SOURCED HIGH QUALITY, PRE-LOVED GARMENTS AND MATERIALS TO REDEVELOP INTO ONE-OF-A-KIND PIECES”

ABOUT HOMIE

Beginning in 2015, HoMie is as much a streetwear brand as it is a social initiative. Aiming to tackle two huge issues faced globally and locally – climate change and youth homelessness – HoMie has so far supported over 1,500 young people through the HoMie Pathway Alliance program which provides development opportunities for young people in need. REBORN launched in March 2020 and has diverted over 760kg of textile waste from landfill.
