Atelier Open Studio
14 Oct, 12pm-3pm
An Open Studio to experience first hand how artisans from Atelier turns waste and biomaterials into future retail objects. Guests were invited to speak with our team about the waste lifecycle and see how Atelier will help sow the seeds for a seismic shift in thinking and diverging from the traditional linear narrative of ‘buy, produce, dispose of’ into a makers’ future that is sustainable, circular, and transparent.
22 Oct, 10am-3pm
A market that celebrated conscious makers with over 10 stall holders where visitors discovered objects that champion responsible and ethical methods of production. BETA’s Atelier and Gallery were also opened for visitors to wander through, presenting a glimpse into how post-consumer materials can be given new form in a myriad of ways. Free coffee was available whilst visitors explored the offerings from expert craftspeople and experienced a variety of disciplines and met the local creatives behind the works. A great community engagement with those who share the same values in being conscious and considered.
Reframing everyday materials by DNJ PAPER workshop
22 Oct, 1pm-3pm
In this free interactive demonstration, Atelier artisan DNJ PAPER invited participants to join them in their studio at Atelier to learn about how they turn a sheet of paper into luxurious cloth.
In their practice, DNJ PAPER makes garments and accessories out of handmade Japanese paper treated and processed into a cloth. In their studio, they shared traditional Japanese and experimental methods for making paper cloth, as well as invited participants to examine their archive of handmade paper currently being produced in Japan.
